Flame

This is Flame:

He is an 8 year old Kelpie x Shepherd who is staying here for 10 days before making the trip to Adelaide. The wonderful lady who is fostering Daisy is also taking this gorgeous boy in.

He is a beautiful dog, loves giving hugs and kisses to people, has wonderful manners and is in a great condition. I love cuddling up to him as he is so soft and smells nicer than my dogs :D

Nothing in life is ever perfect though. He is a really dominant dog and I don't trust him alone with my dogs. My dogs will tolerate anything, especially Charlie, but its not fair to subject him to hours worth of being bullied just because I know he wont snap. Delta thought she would try and play bitey face with Flame- $500 later I have this:

Now, Delta takes after her mother- an absolute klutz. She walks into walls and doorways normally, so you can imagine what it is like watching her maneuver around with a bucket attached to her! The first afternoon I shed a tear every time she crashed into something, now I just laugh at her.

To her credit she isn't particularly fazed by it all. I love this dog so much, she is just eternally happy. I tried to get a picture or her looking sad but it just wouldn't happen.

Charlie is great with her. I had both him and Flame in crates while I went to the vet to pick her up so that she wouldn't have to interact with them when she got home. I started crying when she walked over and lay down next to his crate. Both dogs started whimpering and licking each other's noses. I let him out on a lead but he was so incredibly gentle I let them play for a bit.

So now a strict roster has been put into place. 1 dog in the yard, 1 in the house, 1 in a crate. Then they all go into crates so that Rose can be let out of her room. I am so glad I am on holidays or this just would not work.

Operation Bring Beau Home

In 2008, Dogs with Blogs worldwide are uniting to help bring Beau home.

Beau was stolen from his home in Guanaba, Queensland, Australia on 1 July 2003. Beau's Mum has not stopped looking for him since.

Beau is a registered English Setter, a fairly rare breed of dog in Australia. If you know of anyone who has purchased, found or obtained an adult male English Setter since July 2003, please visit Beau's website and look at all his photos.

Beau is an Orange Belton in colour - this means that he has orange/tan markings through his coat and tail and spots on his face an legs. The rest of his coat is white (not cream or red). His fur is short on his body and face with longer 'feathering' fur on his ears, legs, tail and tummy (although this longer hair might be clipped off).

Beau has a very distinctive face: he has a lot of orange/tan colouring and freckle like spots on his face , hazel eyes, a small pink mark in the bottom corner of one eye where the pigment is missing, and most disitinctive is his HEART SHAPED NOSE.

English Setters are medium sized dogs - about the same size as a Golden Retriever or Labrador.

Beau was micro-chipped and unsterilized when he was stolen (he may have been sterilized since then).

Beau's mum has searched Australia wide and has borrowed thousands and thousands of dollars for newspaper and magazine advertisements, flyers, leaflets, brouchures and mass mailings to vets, dog businesses, dog rescue groups, pounds, shelters, dog groomers, dog friendly accomodation and many other places Australia wide.

Beau's mum is offering a$10,000 REWARD for the safe return of Beau, no questions asked. Beau's mum just wants him back.

To read more about Beau and his Mum's desperate attempts to find him, please visit his website Finding Beau

You can even download and print this Finding Beau Flyer to put up on your local noticeboard.

These youtube.com are about Beau and his mum's efforts to find him.

Beau's brother Hammer has a blog where you can be kept up to date on what is happening in the search for Beau.

Norwest Mock Comp

Hey there, it’s Charlie here. Yesterday my Mummy took me to something called a ‘Mock Comp’ where I got to spend all afternoon with my flyball friends. I had to race against Duke in the very first race of the day- what pressure! I got a little caught up in it all and completely forgot that the idea of it was I had to carry the ball back again. Oops. Mum sat me down and reminded me how to play and after that I was right. And she had extra special treats for me. Good to see her training is going well and she is learning to buy the good stuff. Those chicken things are even better than tennis balls.

Dudley and Amica getting ready for their pairs race

Jake and I raced together in the pairs race against Daisy and Vera. I had sussed the whole thing out by now and did the whole thing perfect. Run over 4 jumps, get the ball, run back over the jumps, get a treat. Easy.

We had a really long break after that and my legs started to get sore. I discovered that drinking is so much easier if you lie in front of the bowl and stick your head in it. Why have I been standing up all this time? Being the slave driver she is, mum still made me run in the team race. I thought Id take an easy route and run around the jumps on the way back but some guy went and stood there. Suddenly going around seemed like too much effort, might as well just go back over the jumps. Final race of the day was another team one. Thankfully my legs had loosened again and I could run properly.

Delta and I slept the whole way home but as soon as we walked in the door I wanted to play fetch. Mum said she was too tired but I can’t see how- all she had to do was stand there! I was the one who did all the work. Maybe she is right though, I am feeling a little sleepy and that lounge looks really inviting…

Rest time

Well, what a fun day it turned out to be. Mum said I am a really clever boy and she is very proud of me. I can’t wait till I can do it again.

Daisy

Daisy is staying with us for a few days before her big trip to a rescue in Adelaide. In that time I think she intends to drive us insane by doing this:

This dog has only 2 modes- sleeping and barking. How do people own yappy dogs? Probably because she is so cute like this:

The first time she barked at Delta she got that scared she ran and hid in her crate. Then she tried getting on the back of the lounge to get away from her. Charlie just barks back at her and goes to get his ball. So she barks because they won't play with her- it's a vicious, never-ending cycle.

Mum, quick let me in, she is coming!!!

Mind you, she has come a long way from her matted days in the pound:

Now she is streaking through the house naked. And showing off an incredibly long neck. I think of E.T. when I see her... or gollum.

I shouldn't be so harsh because she really is a doll and I can't imagine it will take long to find her new family, who will be incredibly lucky to have such a beautiful girl.

Rose doesn't think so. She saw her chance to escape last night and took it. As Daisy seems to need the toilet every 10-15 mins and I don't have a doggy door, I found it easier to just leave the backdoor open. At 2am I noticed Rose wasn't in her room and went outstide to look for her, followed by a pack of ravaging beasts. She took off, they took chase, she ran head first into a fence. I don't think she will be attempting another escape any time soon.

PICSI Christmas Party 07

Our christmas party was for both those who do flyball and those who do agility, so why not combine the 2 for some fun and games? We had so much fun we didn't even bother setting up any other games- just ran backwards and forwards all night :)

Charlie is the black dog running around in a santa outfit. He is also at 29secs. There are none of Delta running but she is the border collie waiting impatiently in the background while the little brown santa and Polly the 3-legged pom are running. Thank you to Terry for making the video and letting me put it on youtube

From Mice to Rice

Well I would like to start by saying that after 6 1/2 days of freedom, Elliot the mouse has finally been recaptured. How he survived in a house with 2 dogs and a cat running round is beyond me. He must be some kind of super mouse or something.

I noticed he had escaped his cage last Friday morning and figured he had made his way out the front door. Sightings continued over the weekend; however, with Rose alerting me to his presence under the stove on Sunday night. A few more days passed before he was spotted this afternoon running under the lounge. An elaborate rescue attempt was put into place, which involved putting Bermuda in a small cage inside a larger cage, hoping he would go inside to try to get to her. He is now in a plastic storage box awaiting the purchase of a new cage with smaller bar spacings. If anyone is interested in a cage for a rat, let me know...

Almost in

Ok, now how do I get back out again?

3 Reasons why you should not come to dinner at my house

1. I have a tendency to turn on the wrong element so that the water doesn't ever heat up.

2. It is likely that there will be dog hair in your rice. It creeps into the pot of water I am trying to boil.

3. Once I finally work out why the water isn't boiling I turn on the correct element, pour in the rice, then forget all about cooking and take the dogs for a walk. An hour later the house will really smell and your rice will look like this:

Meet the Relatives

First we have Rose, the poor Siamese stuck with all these dogs. Until 6 months ago she had never even met a dog in all her 6 years. Now she is the boss of hundreds. All dogs must bow before her and the best position on my lap is reserved for Her Royal Highness.

Maddi, my sister's dog. 3 months older than Cody, she was the first to enter our extended family. She now lives at my mum's house.

Missi, belongs to my other sister. She also lives at mum's house and spends the day being savaged by Maddi. Poor thing has always got scabs on her face from her evil cousin. She was rescued, along with her brother, by my sister and her friend when she was about 14 weeks. She was bred by someone who thought it would be cool to teach his pups to fight each other -headdesk-
